Screen Capture made Easy with ‘PrintScreen’

July 12th, 2008 | Posted in Software

You might have tried several tools to capture desktop screen or an active window, sometimes part of the screen which has got an interesting image. Surely it is not so easy to complete the job with old Windows screen capture methods. But, you can do this by just pressing the ‘PrintScreen’ button on your keyboard and selecting the area of interest by mouse pointer with Gadwin PrintScreen software. You can follow these steps given as screen shots below. Select the preference button and keep the hot key option as ‘PrintScreen’. Set the source as you require. I selected ‘Rectangular Area’ to capture part of a window. Decide your destination folder and image formats. Here common image formats BMP, JPG,GIF,PNG and TIF. If you need to resize the image to a specific size, give width and height details. Leave all other fields as default.

Essential Freeware/Shareware Applications for your Windows Desktop

July 3rd, 2008 | Posted in Software

Word processors, spreadsheets, presentation tools, database and internet tools are essential components of a desktop PC now-a-days. Most of the users never give attention to setup a fully working computing environment by installing essential software for their regular use. Installation of a software is usually done when they forced to install any of them to open  a file  which is downloaded from Internet or to open a  video or an applet on a web page.  My opinion is that install all the essential software immediately after the installation of the OS. It may be difficult to get and install all of them together, but make a schedule and install them without much delay. If you search for a virus scanner  only after  an attack from an internet source,  it is difficult for you to continue your work. So keep all essential things ready, so there may not be much trouble with regular computing. Some of the most important software from freeware/shareware category are listed out here and which are downloadable free from their respective sites. Read the details about the software given below and selection part is up to you as per your requirement. Continue reading »

Store and manage your health data with Google

June 24th, 2008 | Posted in Internet

Google Health is a new service which allows you to store and manage all of your health information in one central place. It’s completely free and you can log into this service  by your google account.  Google believes that you own your medical records and should have easy access to them. The way we see it, it’s your information; why shouldn’t you control it?

  • Keep your doctors up-to-date
  • Stop filling out the same paperwork every time you see a new doctor
  • Avoid getting the same lab tests done over and over again because your doctor cannot get copies of your latest results
  • Don’t lose your medical records because of a move, change in jobs or health insurance.

With Google Health, you manage your health information — not your health insurance plan or your employer. You can access your information anywhere, at any time.

9 Interesting Features of Firefox 3

June 22nd, 2008 | Posted in Internet, Software

It is very exciting news that Mozilla has received more than 8 million requests for Firefox 3 downloads on the first day of releasing.  I am a fan of Firefox and using it for the past two years and always looking for new versions and add-ons. It is a wonderful browser package ever I have seen especially with it’s browsing speed and other features where other leading browsers are struggling. Firefox 3 sets the innovation bar very high with exciting new features, including one-click bookmarking, the smart location bar and lightning fast performance. I have downloaded the new version and tested it and see some of the new features of Firefox in the new version which distinguishes this from other competitors.

Windows shortcut keys for common applications

June 21st, 2008 | Posted in Software

This is a very common windows shortcut key to restart a PC or to open Windows Task Manager window. Don’t try this unless you require. I am a great fan of shortcuts with my desktop applications. Shortcut keys help provide an easier and usually quicker method of navigating and using computer software programs. These are commonly accessed by using the combination of Alt, Ctrl, and/or Shift in conjunction with a single letter. The de facto standard for listing a shortcut is listing the modifier key, a plus symbol, and the single character. Or in other words, “ALT+S” is telling you to press the Alt key and while continuing to hold the Alt key, press the S key to perform the shortcut. There are many websites giving shortcut keys for your regular desktop applications.

Try shortcuts given in shortcutworld.com. Shortcuts and description of Firefox, Winamp, Windows XP, Word, Excel etc. are explained nicely on the site. Also, Photoshop keys.

Create high resolution screenshots with Photoshop

June 16th, 2008 | Posted in Software

Adobe Photoshop CS Classroom in a Book

It was always a problem for me to get screenshots with high resolution. Therefore, most of the screenshots I used in the previous posts are with 72 dpi resolution. Ofcourse, it is little tricky to to get good quality images with the help of any screen-capture software. Here I have tried Photoshop to get high quality output from screen-captured images by simple steps. You can do the same steps and get perfect and sharp screenshots at a higher dpi. Open your Photoshop software first and try this.

Capture the screen:

To make a screenshot, hold CTRL and press the ‘print screen’ button on your keyword (for PC users). To capture the e active window alone, press CTRL, ALT, and then ‘print screen’ button. The captured image will be available in clipboard.
